Freedom Ring
(strahm) © 2014 Strahmsong BMI

Founding fathers declare all men equal
so it is with the stroke of a pen
provincial minions preaching from their pulpits
and the crowds all sing amen
so life began in a brave new world
where happiness pursued has its price

when Freedom Rings, Freedom Rings

Oh how we grew into a shameful Jim Crow nation
separate but equal the decree
bigoted
minions preaching from their pulpits
for the cross and a lynching tree
on a bus in Montgomery a fire ignites within
a brave soul tired of giving in

and Freedom Rings, Freedom Rings
Freedom Rings, Freedom Rings

June of '69 a final provocation
just another raid on Christopher Street
ignorant minions still preaching from their pulpits
God hates fags Adam and Steve
Stonewall began a day of reckoning
when tolling bells became deafening

Freedom Rings, Freedom Rings
Freedom Rings, Freedom Rings
Freedom Rings

For every love that's been denied, every senseless loss of life
every frightened timid child, who suffered while others stood by
and every final note good-bye that's read by loved ones left behind
every bullied voice that cried I have value I have pride
all of those who fight the fight Freedom Rings!
